Our Honeymoon Tour Erg Chegaga is a private trip with your own driver and local guide, tailored to your travel dates.
Looking for a honeymoon tour to Erg Chegaga? This 5-day private journey from Marrakech combines romantic rural riads, the Draa Valley and two nights in a luxury desert camp in the Sahara, far from the crowds of the main tourist routes.
On the first night, enjoy a private dinner in a rural riad overlooking the Draa Valley. In the desert, a private candlelit dinner under the stars is followed by an evening of Berber music. Along the way you see adobe kasbahs, palm groves and traditional Berber and nomadic life, in a quieter part of the south than the better-known Merzouga route.
The itinerary can be adapted for couples with more time, so contact us to personalize your honeymoon in Morocco.
- Atlas Film Studios: Visit the sets of famous films in Ouarzazate.
- Glaoui Kasbahs: Taourirt in Ouarzazate, Aït Benhaddou and Telouet.
- Draa Valley: Drive through date palm groves, oases and ancient kasbahs.
- Tamegroute: Browse the pottery cooperative and the old Quranic manuscripts.
- Erg Chegaga Trek: A full day trekking with camels through the dunes.
- Private Luxury Camp: Two nights in a private tent with campfire and Berber drumming.
- Lake Iriqui and Taznakht: Look for fossils in the desert and watch Berber rug weaving.
Here is the day-by-day itinerary of the Honeymoon Tour Erg Chegaga.
Day 1: Marrakech → Ouarzazate → Agdz
Depart from your riad in Marrakech at 8:30 am. Stop at panoramic viewpoints in the High Atlas for photos. After lunch in Ouarzazate, visit the Taourirt Kasbah, expanded in the 19th century by the powerful Glaoui family. In the afternoon, cross the Tizi n’Tinfifte pass to the head of the Draa Valley and your luxury rural riad, where a private romantic dinner awaits.
Day 2: Agdz → Zagora → Tamegroute → Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, visit Kasbah Tamnougalte, one of the oldest kasbahs in the Draa Valley. The route follows the Draa, Morocco’s date-growing valley, irrigated by small canals from the river. Lunch in Zagora, the largest town in the area, then stop in Tamegroute for its green-glazed pottery and the ancient Quranic library with its hand-written manuscripts. Continue to M’Hamid, at the edge of the desert, and cross about 60 km of desert to Erg Chegaga. You are welcomed with mint tea, then ride a camel up the dunes for sunset. Dinner and overnight in a luxury camp with private bathroom, king-size beds and traditional furniture.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, spend a full day trekking in the Sahara with camels carrying your lunch. You can ride or walk beside them, accompanied by local guides who explain the stony desert, the dunes, the oases and nomadic family life. Walking time is about five hours, split between morning and afternoon, and you set the pace. Dinner by candlelight and overnight in your luxury camp.
Day 4: Erg Chegaga → Foum Zguid → Taznakht → Ouarzazate
After breakfast, drive west across the desert past Lake Iriqui, where heat mirages are common, with mountains in the distance and fossils to look for. Lunch in Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert. Continue on paved roads past striking rock formations to Taznakht, known for its Berber carpets, where you can watch women weave and knot rugs. Overnight in a riad in Ouarzazate.
Day 5: Ouarzazate → Aït Benhaddou → Telouet → Marrakech
After breakfast, visit Aït Benhaddou, the UNESCO-listed ksar used as a backdrop in many films. Continue up the Ounila Valley, with its green fields and gardens, to Telouet and its Glaoui Kasbah, once the seat of Thami El Glaoui. The kasbah interior is currently closed, but the exterior is still worth a visit with a local guide. We arrive back in Marrakech at the end of the afternoon, where the tour ends.
