Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
The adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech, heading across the High Atlas Mountains. As the road winds upward, sweeping views of valleys, traditional Berber villages, and rugged peaks set the tone for the journey.
A stop at the legendary Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a chance to step back in time. Its earthen architecture and fortified alleys have stood for centuries, and the site has been used as a backdrop in countless films.
Continuing through the lush Skoura oasis and the fragrant Valley of Roses, the road reveals the famed “Route of 1,001 Kasbahs.” By evening, you’ll reach the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic cliffs and winding gorges, where the night is spent surrounded by striking landscapes.
Day 2: Dades Valley → Tinghir → Todra Gorge → Merzouga
After breakfast, the journey continues toward Tinghir, a charming town set amid palm groves. From here, a short walk takes you through the oasis and into the Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs rise nearly 300 meters on either side. This natural wonder is one of Morocco’s most impressive canyons.
The road then leads through Erfoud and Rissani, towns known for fossils and desert traditions. By afternoon, you arrive at the edge of the Sahara in Merzouga, where the adventure shifts to camels. A sunset trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi brings you to a desert camp, where you enjoy dinner, music, and stargazing around the campfire. Overnight in a traditional tent.
Day 3: Sahara Desert Exploration
Start the day with a beautiful sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, spend the day exploring the desert: ride camels across the golden sands, visit a local nomadic family, and discover nearby oases or fossil sites. In the evening, enjoy a sunset over the dunes, a traditional Berber dinner, and stargazing under the vast Sahara sky.
Day 4: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Ifrane → Fes
The day begins early with the breathtaking sight of the sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast, the return journey begins through the scenic Ziz Valley, a ribbon of green palm groves that cuts through the desert landscape.
Continuing north, you’ll pass through Midelt, known as the “City of Apples,” before entering the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. Here, you may spot Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. A final stop is made in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine architecture and clean streets.
By early evening, you’ll arrive in Fes, marking the end of your desert adventure
