Driving through the Rif Mountains, you’ll enjoy sweeping views before reaching Chefchaouen, famously known as the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco. Nestled in the mountains, this town enchants visitors with its maze of blue-washed houses, cobbled alleys, and artistic charm. Stroll through Place Outa el Hammam, visit the Kasbah and Ethnographic Museum, and admire the Great Mosque’s unique octagonal minaret. Evening free to relax in the serene mountain atmosphere.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Fez
After breakfast, we continue toward Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities. Upon arrival, begin exploring highlights such as the impressive Royal Palace gates, the old Jewish quarter (Mellah), and panoramic views over the Medina from the Southern Tower. Inside the UNESCO-listed Medina of Fez, time seems to stand still. Its narrow lanes are filled with craftsmen’s workshops, colorful souks, and centuries-old madrasas. A walk here is like stepping into a living museum of Islamic architecture and traditional Moroccan life. Overnight in a riad inside the old city.
Day 3: Fez – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
Today the adventure shifts from city life to nature. After breakfast, depart through the Middle Atlas, stopping in Ifrane, a charming alpine-style town often called “Little Switzerland.” Continue through cedar forests where Barbary macaques live, with time for photos near the ancient Cedar Gouraud.
Passing Berber villages and wide valleys, stop in Midelt for lunch before driving through the spectacular Ziz Valley, home to endless palm groves and fortified kasbahs. By evening, reach Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. Here, camels await to carry you across the dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets in brilliant colors. At camp, enjoy dinner by the fire, Berber music, and a magical night under the desert sky.
Day 4: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Ouarzazate
Wake up early to witness sunrise over the dunes, a once-in-a-lifetime view. After breakfast, leave the desert behind and travel through Erfoud, known for fossil workshops, before crossing lush palm groves in Touroug and Tinjdad.
The journey continues to the Todra Gorge, where a crystal-clear river runs between towering cliffs nearly 300 meters high. Enjoy a walk inside the gorge and lunch in the area before heading to the Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations and kasbahs. Continue through the Valley of Roses, where local cooperatives produce rose water, and Skoura, home to a vast palm grove and ancient kasbahs. Arrival in Ouarzazate by evening, often called the “Gateway to the Desert.”
Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, visit Ouarzazate, a city famous for its film studios where countless Hollywood movies have been shot. Then drive to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic ksour in Morocco. Its labyrinth of earthen houses and towers has been the backdrop for films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
After lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m). Along the way, stop for panoramic views of Berber villages and valleys. By late afternoon, arrive in Marrakech, where the lively Jemaa el-Fna square and its bustling souks await.
