The experience begins around 5:30 pm, when you mount your camel and ride for about 30 minutes into the dunes. Once deep in the desert, the camels are left behind as you continue on foot to reach the higher dunes of Merzouga.
For those wishing to see a wide panoramic view, it takes about 10 minutes of climbing to reach the top. From here, the desert stretches endlessly in every direction, and the sunset paints the sands in glowing shades of red and orange. If you prefer not to climb, you can still enjoy the view from the surrounding dunes near the camel stop.
